Belly Up 3-20-2004 - a show in review...

Review & Photos by BuRRRbeARy_GuRL

Okay... I wrote a whole long review earlier today and when I submitted it I guess I took to long to write the post and so my session timed out and the whole freakin' thing disappered... so forgive me if this review isn't very long or detailed, but I don't feel like trying to re-create the first review... I'm just a little frustrated...

So my friend Aimee and I drove down to Solana Beach and got there around 8:00... I got in line for tickets and she went next door to the Wild Note Cafe and put in our name for a table. There were already a dozen or so people waiting for the doors to open. We had a nice dinner and finished just a little before 9:00 when the show was supposed to start.

I had heard somebody say earlier that they didn't think everything was going to start on time... and they were right... I don't think it was until a little after 9:30 or so that things got going. That was okay though because it gave the place more time to fill up and by the time the band took the stage the place was pretty full. They announced Kevin and the band and then the signature opening notes of "Return of the Singer" began to play... For those who follow KMAX fashion... he was in a black suit with a light blue and white striped button up shirt underneath.

I'll do my best to recall the set list, but I always get it wrong... miss a song, put down a song they didn't play, get it out of order... but I'll give it my best guess...

Return of the Singer
21st Century Darlings
Stranded 72.5
Irish Hymn for the Masses
Blind (at least I think he did Blind... or it's just stuck in my head... lol)
Angel With No Wings
Wicked Game (*New* Chris Isaac cover)
Lips Like Sugar
Can't Help Falling In Love

I hope I got them all... and got them right... lol... but then, unless somebody tells ya'll differently, you won't know anyways! ha ha!

The band sounded good... KMAX came down into the crowd to sing part of one song... and also had a couple 'guests' on stage... one guy jumped up on stage with him and then KMAX told him to stage dive off... lol... he was about to when security came up and grabbed him... lol... It was quite funny... then at the end... to close the show while he was singing "Can't Help Falling in Love" two young ladies came up and joined him for a slow dance/seranade... and lyrics were changed for one of the final chorus' to "I can't help... falling in love with... the two of you..." The whole crowd laughed... it was a fun night...

By the time the set finished the place was packed like a sardine can... it must have take me and Aimee at least 10, if not 15 minutes to make our way through the crowd and outside for some air. A lot of new people got a taste of KMAX and the band, so I hope they made many new fans. I know my friend Aimee liked the show... she might even want to catch another in the future... we shall see... she did comment to me tho' after watching KMAX's shakin' legs on stage that he was, "A spazz"... lol... but if I know her (and I do, really well) she enjoyed his "spazzines" as much as the rest of us.

Oh... and I tried to get pics... but my camera battery was low and for the life of me I kept getting horrible shots of theMax... funky facial expressions, bad lighting... you name it. So I've only got one of him to post and two of Erick... but enjoy!
